The Great Plains Chapter supports the three tenets of the NSDAR:

Patriotism * Education * Historic Preservation

The following describes some of the programs in which our chapter participates.

PATRIOTISM

Members of our chapter have participated in and donated supplies for baby showers held for the benefit of veteran moms. Donating cookies and making valentines for our Veterans who serve our nation is a favorite project. We planted a liberty tree in honor of our Patriots’ enduring fight for freedom.  Our members participate in Naturalization Ceremonies for welcoming new citizens.

EDUCATION

Through the national Reach Out and Read program, we held book drives to provide much-needed children’s books for medical centers and dental offices throughout the community. To date, we have donated in excess of 150 books. Members also promote DAR scholarships to area students and schools. Over the summer, with the leadership of our librarian, the chapter placed a Little Library in the Great Plains Park and keeps it stocked with books.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION

To protect and preserve valuable documents for future generations, chapter members remotely transcribe NSDAR records. Our chapter showcases and maximizes the skills and talents of each of our members. This not only benefits the community by helping where we are needed most but also gives personal satisfaction to all participants!
